Stick with Weber or go for a Megasquirt using throttle bodies, the reason i'm asking is i need a new loom @£250 and everytime i want to adjust the Weber set up i need to go through Weber(same problem a Alex) or a trip to northhampton and a RR session =£££s so any suggestions.

I think you should do megasquirt and do a idiots guide for idiots like me who want to do this

Ah, an idiot doing an idiots guide sounds idiotic or not
Having used carbs and ITBs I would go for the ITBs every time now. Once set up they will give as good performance as the carbs but with more control across the whole range.
I had 1.8 Zetec with a set of webers that I converted to TBs along with an emerald ECU not megasquirt though.
I'v'e spent the last two weeks comparing everthing I can find about different ECU's including downloading the software and looking at the settings options. Value for money MS takes it, however, if you don't mind paying out more the S range of DTA ECU's are probably the best out there for ease of self tuning.
I'm probably going to go with MS as it has pretty much the same features as some of the DTA ones, although not quite as easy to use.
download the software here, it takes a little while to config http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/setup.html
there is a guy on locostbuilders called calvinx, he sells "probably" the best value MS, it comes with a lot of extras including USB ready, as opposed to serial which is a pain in the A if you have a new laptop. If I go with MS it's who I'll be getting mine from. http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthr ... ?tid=57869 £275 + p&p

Interesting link, not come across it before, as it seems very similar to MS why does it surpase it? it looks as though a wide band lambda wires straight in without an LS-1 style wiring, I'm I right?
What I understood from it is that it once started as a MS derivative, but then they started from the ground up only keeping the laptop software, but new ecu firmware, and new board design using a different CPU.
Thank guys, i am going to stick with Weber, reason being that i have pre-sold the engine to a spotty faced youngster(no offence)offer too good to refuse which will pay for my next engine conversion so i can run all summer knowing its sold.

I've been reading up on them, thanks for the link, the only thing they really share with megasquirt is the software.
I have just bought one
Wiring should be through in a week so I can build the loom, ECU is 2 weeks away, but will come preconfigured to use tempsensors and wideband lambda..... I've already got an ignition map so that i can get it running with carbs and then swap to throttle bodies at a later date. I've got a set of 8 injector GSXR ones in the post!
Well, let me know when you have it running how it performs, but I also have a better feeling with it then the MS, just looking at the size of the unit and it used smd components instead of the old skool thru hole stuff MS uses. Also not a bunch of boxes together to form one unit and some descent connectors for the loom.
