IVA and Daylight Running Lights

Just fitted all the lights and was browsing the web for some electrical bits. Stumbled across a statement on the SVC website saying daylight running lights are required for all new kits car registrations in 2012. As these weren't planned for we were a bit peeved if we had to modify our newly painted bodywork :cry: . A look around the net on this subject found conflicting information. An email to VOSA clarified this and the official reply is;

"DRL`s are not currently required under the IVA regulations and there are no plans to introduce the requirement in the near future".

Panic over :D .

You must be pretty close to getting it through IVA in 2011 ?

Realistically will be 2012. Will get most done this year but health issues will slow me down for another 6 months or so (Pete). Meanwhile, we keep plodding along!!

What do the IVA rules require? I saw some LED, strip type running light at the market here in Malaysia the other day, and I'm sure they went on with double sided tape under the head lights. You could fit these without any change to the body/paint. Didn't take to much notice as I thought they were real chav, but if it helps I'll look more closly next time I'm there.

Daylight running lights are defined as lights that are on whist the headlights are off (but not when headlights are flashed. Must be white light. When the headlights are on the DRL's go off. Can't find any power/wattage specs so the sticky strips would be ok, albeit a bit chav as you say but need a switching/control added. Currently, the IVA manual says they are optional.

http://www.mudah.my/Luxury+HiPower+Dayt ... 784215.htm

Just saw these on a local web site, daytime lights they are around 25 pound a set, ignore the luxury bit, they are chav, but you can see form the advert they appeal to merc, audi owners here (which is why I got a BMW).
